Q&A with design duo Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, the show's Creative Directors
We grabbed a quick coffee with design duo Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, Creative Directors behind Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View.
So what’s new to the show?
We’re so excited about this year’s show. For starters, Marble, one of Johannesburg’s best restaurants, is creating an exciting pop up food experience cued by nature and up to the minute trends from the food and design front.
In addition, our thoughtfully curated Architect’s Gallery feature will celebrate the very best projects from various South African architectural minds.
We’ve also kept design-sussed consumers in mind with a dedicated retail area called Retail Corridor. This will allow the public to take home items from the breadth of South African design talent.
For thirsty visitors Hendricks are presenting a gin bar that we are creating for them in a Tim Burtonesque style featuring luxury lifestyle brand Ardmore.
So your own design brand, Anatomy Design, will also be exhibiting at the show, what can visitors expect?
Anatomy Design will be launching its latest set of heirloom furniture. Expect traditional furniture that has been reimagined with contemporary form. Also, keep an eye out for our inaugural range of collectible objet.
What are you two most looking forward to seeing at this year’s show?
That’s a really difficult one! We’re really looking forward to the second installment of the CoLab features, particularly those where an established studio has taken on a mentee. For example, we’re expecting explosive stuff from Tristan du Plessis from perennially cool Studio A who is mentoring emerging designer Tuami Zulu from Proportion Design.
